March Tactical Combat Casualty Care Course Synopsis

March 1st and 2nd Tucson Sector Border Patrol hosted a National Association of Emergency Medical Technician (NAEMT) Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC) Course. Sponsored by Integrated Community Solutions to Active Violence Events (ICSAVE), the course brought together over 28 active public safety and military professionals from throughout Pima County.

TCCC is developed by the U.S. Department of Defense, Defense Health Agency (DHA) Joint Trauma System to teach evidence-based, life-saving techniques and strategies for providing the best trauma care on the battlefield. NAEMT conducts TCCC courses as specified by the DHA-JTS.

The 16-hour course covered topics designed to decrease preventable death in combat situations. Topics included: Hemorrhage control; surgical airway control and needle decompression; strategies for treating wounded responders in threatening environments; and techniques for dragging and carrying victims to safety.
